Murder

Cynthia had declared a rental home unfit for habitation. The landlord, Robert Lezelle Courtney, beat her unconscious with a baseball bat in the middle of the street. She escaped after he was arrested, and he took a $7,500 bail. The next day before her court appearance, Courtney went to Volpe’s house where he murdered her husband first, then shot her four times, killing her. Their children were able to escape harm. Courtney led police on a pursuit and barricaded himself in a building where he died. He was armed with weapons to ambush responding officers. It was later discovered Courtney had murdered his own siblings and mother several days before attacking the Volpes, and that he found out where she lived through records provided by a friend.
