Murder

George F. Guernsey

Humane Officer Guernsey, 59, of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was shot and killed at a construction site. Guernsey had seized several disabled animals that were determined to be in too poor condition to be worked at the construction project, angering a construction foreman. While enroute back to the animal shelter with the horses, Guernsey was confronted by Siler, who demanded the animals be released. An argument ensued, and Siler drew a revolver and shot the Humane Officer. Siler was tried for murder, resulting in a mistrial.
