Reed Walker
Senior Building Inspector
Las Vegas, NV
February 26, 1960
Murder

Motive was revenge because Walker's negative report on two rental houses led to the city zoning board denying the owner's request that he could turn it into a duplex. Suspect: Albert N. Burke, 43. Released due to lack of evidence. An excerpt states: "Indications that the murder of Senior Las Vegas Building Inspector Reed Walker stemmed from building code violations he was about to report - or had already reported - were verified today by highly reliable sources in city hall." "Reed and Leila (his wife, who worked as an emergency telephone operator in the Public Works Department) came here from Denver. They married about two years ago. City employees who knew them both very well for four years, said they were a devoted couple." Walker's hobby was rock-collecting and his wife used the rocks to trim her trailer yard, according to coworkers. "Reed was very kind and well-liked," a fellow inspector stated.
