Police in Innisfil charged a man after he allegedly assaulted a bylaw officer on shift back in March.

On March 17, just after 3 p.m., South Simcoe Police responded to reports of an alleged assault along Colborne Street in Bradford.

Officials say bylaw officers were out issuing parking enforcement, when they noticed vehicles that were parked in ‘no-stopping areas’ near a school crosswalk.

All drivers were cautioned to move their vehicles—and while all did one remained, according to police.

The bylaw officer says they proceeded to issue a ticket to the driver who continued to violate the parking restrictions after previously being asked to move.

As the bylaw officer prepared to issue the ticket for the parking violation, the suspect driving a black GMC Sierra allegedly started to use profanities and reportedly struck the officer with his vehicle door.

Following the incident police say the man fled the scene later returning to the same area, where he was found by responding officers.

On Sunday, the 47-year-old was arrested and charged with assaulting a bylaw officer.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a court date scheduled in late May.
