SAVANNAH, Ga. — A candidate for Savannah City council is charged with chasing down a city code compliance officer to get his campaign signs back.
Malik Jones is running against incumbent Alderwoman Linda Wilder-Bryan in District 3.
According to Savannah Police, on March 20, Jones approached a code compliance officer about getting back campaign signs that were not placed properly. The report says Jones jumped in the back of the officer's truck in an attempt to get the signs. When police arrived on the scene, they found a gun in Jones' waistband.
Jones is charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Since these are misdemeanor charges, Jones is still eligible to run for city council.
