2023 - County code enforcement employee shot, teen arrested after East Memphis gunfire.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A 16-year-old is behind bars after two people were shot in East Memphis.
One of those men is an employee of the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development, according to a spokesperson for the Shelby County Mayor's Office.
"Our priorities are making sure the employee and their family get the support they need and assisting Memphis Police's investigation in any way we can," said Kelly Roberts, Strategic Communications Manager for the Shelby County Mayor's Office.
The gunfire rang out around noon at Bluff City E-Bike on South Highland Street, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
MPD said that two men were at the bike shop when they noticed the 16-year-old boy breaking into cars.
The boy ran off, according to police, and then came back and argued with the men before throwing a stolen phone and firing shots at them.
One of the men were hit outside of the business, police said.
MPD said that a man who saw the teen began chasing after him and that the teen then shot that man in the 3400 block of Carnes Avenue, just a block away from the first shooting.
Both of the men shot were non-critically injured, according to police.
MPD soon found the 16-year-old nearby on Prescott Circle and arrested him.
That teen boy was charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, burglary of a motor vehicle and two counts of theft of property under $1,000.
