Housing Inspector Slain

1997 - A St. Paul man suspected of shooting a city housing inspector to death during a Christmas Eve home inspection led authorities Thursday to the victim's body in a shallow grave in Burnett County, Wisconsin.

December 24, 1997 - The inspector, Donald G. Juenemann, 56, had been a St. Paul employee for more than 25 years, and was less than a year from retirement. He lived with his wife in Woodbury, where he also was a volunteer firefighter.

St. Paul police said that James Jerome Jackson, a 69-year-old retiree, confessed to the slaying after he was arrested Thursday morning at his East Side home. He is expected to be charged with murder today.

Authorities say St. Paul housing Inspector Donald G. Juenemann was killed Wednesday while visiting this house at 1011 E. 4th Street on the city's East Side. The owner, James Jerome Jackson, is expected to be charged with the murder today.

Investigators wouldn't comment directly on a possible motive, but it appeared that Jackson was worried he might be evicted from his property.

However, the city had made no moves to condemn the property or to evict him.

Juenemann was last seen about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday as he inspected Jackson's property.
